Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The objectives of SELENE are to acquire the data for the research of the origin and evolution of the Moon and also to develop such technology as soft landing to be necessary for the future lunar exploration. SELENE consists of mother orbiter and relay satellite. The mother orbiter is made up of the mission module and propulsion module. The mother orbiter contains mission instruments in the mission module and accomplish global survey of the Moon from the polar orbit of 100km altitude for 1 year. The propulsion module separates from the mission module after observationmission, and demonstrates the soft-landing experiment. The relay satellite is used for the gravity field mapping in conjunction with the propulsion module.
