Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For understanding of the ozone depletion and the climate change, three dimensional observations of trace gas species, such as ClO, BrO, HO_2, from the upper troposphere to the stratosphere, are important. Satellite borne limb-emission spectrometer using a low noise heterodyne technique in the sub-millimeter wave range is the most promising method to remotely measure these trace gas distributions. CRL and NASDA, with the technical assistance of NAO, have a joint research plan to develop a Superconducting Sub-Millimeter Wave Limb Emission Sounder (SMILES) to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method on the Exposed Facilities of the Japanese Experiment Module(JEM) of the International Space Station. We describe an overview of JEM/SMILES in this report.
