Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Signals observed in multi-look polarimetric synthetic aperture radar images are, in general, partially polarized. The degree of polarization of a partially polarized wave scattered from a statistically homogeneous surface can be regarded as a random variable. We have investigated the statistical characteristics of the degree of polarization. It has been shown that the degree of polarization converges with increasing numbers of looks to a value depending on the surface and the polarization state of the incident wave. A new method for land classification based on the degree of polarization is developed, and the experimental results are shown.
