Iterative Joint Channel and Source Decoding in Mobile Multimedia Communications

Abstract(in English) Multimedia multiplexing and source coding are the essential functions in multimedia communications. Communications over mobile channels in error-prone environments should be immune to transmission errors. Examples of the standardized error-resilient schemes are ISO MPEG-4 video coding / decoding and ITU-T H. 223 Annex multimedia multiplexing / demultiplexing. To improve error-resilience, we propose a combination of channel decoding in multimedia demultiplexer and video source decoding, which provides feedback of resynchronized results in video decoding to channel decoding as a priori information. It also provides iteration of channel and source decoding.
