Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Companies in the Japanese computer, electronics, and software industries face a certain crisis within this decade. As the worldwide industry has shifted from a proprietary, mainframe-based culture to the new, open, distributed processing culture, Japanese firms have failed to keep up. They must urgently address four key issues : downsizing, a lack of venture-type businesses, monopolies on value-added products, and a lack of leadership. |
