Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have examined the characteristics of hybrid EDFs composed of Al doped EDF and P/Al co-doped EDF, comparing with the conventional EDFs and those with passive gain equalizing filters. As a result, it has been shown that hybrid EDFs have the highest pumping efficiency in the condition of the flattened gain, but their noise characteristics tends to be inferior. Based on this examination, we have developed hybrid EDFAs composed of 3 section EDFs, that is, the first section is Al-doped EDF pumped at 0.98 μm, second and third section following the midway isolator are P/Al co-doped EDF and Al doped EDF pumped at 1.48 μm, respectively. They can realize a gain flattened at required level of the input signal power, a low NF, and a high pumping efficiency simultaneously.
