Scalable MPEG-2 Video Distribution over RSVP Networks

Abstract(in English) Due to the high variation of available bandwidth of the computer network, we propose a transmission scheme for the MPEG-2 SNR scalable video distribution over RSVP networks. The RSVP network can provide a guarantee style for each distinct data flow, or a shared style for several data flows sharing an unreliable bandwidth. The base layer of the scalable video is transmitted over the channel of the guaranteed mode, whereas the enhancement layer is transmitted over a shared channel. With a scalable coder, a higher picture quality can be achieved when a small number of streams are in the network. On the other hand, this scheme also allows more data streams to enter the network at a some what lower picture quality.
