Development Status of Earth Terminal Technology for S-Band Satellite Mobile Communications and Broadcasting System in Advanced Space Communications Research Laboratory

Abstract(in English) Advanced Space Communications Research Laboratory(ASC) has been developing S-band mobile satellite communications and broadcasting system using GEO satellite. This system aims to realize communication services using handheld terminals and CD-class-quality digital audio broadcasting services, by use of large deployable antennas and an on-board processor. This paper presents our concept for development, development results up to now and experiment plans, focusing on the earth terminal technology development in ASC. In this paper, small antennas for handheld terminals are mainly described. Outlines of a vehicle's antenna, a earth station's system design for communication and plans of experiment for digital audio broadcasting are also described.
