Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper presents a 3-D subband video coding scheme which is an extesion of our previously proposed 2-D subband coding using a weighted mean filter to the temporal domain. To reduce the motion-compensated error, a hierarchical variable size block matching algorithm is employed for motion estimation. Motion-compensated temporal analysis and a spatial subband filter decompose a video signal into 3-D spatio-temporal subbands. Experimental results using several test video sequences show that the proposed scheme improves image quality in PSNR about 1-2 dB better than that of MPEG-1.
