Chaos and Bifurcation in Piecewise Linear model with External Force Depending on Displacement

Abstract(in English) Cover gas was constantly supplied to a main tank the bottom of which was connected to that of a subtank. The water levels in the tanks oscillated alternately until the free surface in the main tank pushed by the gas reached the bottom end of a vertical release pipe. Then the gas was ejected from the main tank, resulting in a sudden surface rise and plugging of the pipe inlet. The cover gas pressure increased again, thus, gas ejection occured intermittently. The system behavior was described by piecewise linear ordinarily differential equations with four parameters. The solution showed chaotic features in a specific condition. In this study, we examined fixed points of the system behavior and investigated bifurcation visually and geometrically.
