Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The tremendous growth in Internet traffic loads has generated a great need for increased transmission capacity and switching-system throughput in underlying transport networks. Photonic networks by means of wavelength paths are considered to be promising solutions for future IP transport networks. In such networks, it is important to forward excessive traffic with additional wavelengths whenever the amount of traffic is above the total capacity of reserved ones. One-way reservation is suitable for frequent reservations and releases of wavelengths. However, it is difficult to achieve bandwidth guarantee compared to the two-way reservation scheme, which on the other hand, has poor bandwidth efficiency. In this paper, we present a media access control method for WDM ring networks, which provides minimum bandwidth guarantee while maintains resource usage efficiency. Simulation results show that the method can reduce queuing delay in source node especially when the traffic load is low and the traffic burstiness is high.
