Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For dispersive fiber-optic communication systems, we discuss system performance impaired by frequency-to-amplitude noise conversion attributed to the chromatic dispersion. The probability density function (PDF) for photoelectron counts is calculated based on photoelectron statistics. Results are applied to evaluation of system performance for optical on-off keying communication systems. The bit-error rate and the power penalty are calculated directly from the PDF, and their degradation due to frequency-to-amplitude noise conversion is evaluated as a function of laser linewidth and fiber length. The analysis is accurate and conceptually simple in comparison with previous works where system performances are approximately estimated from the relative intensity noise.
