Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes an ATM-PON repeater that enlarges the transmission distance between the OLT and the ONTs. We indicate that the repeater needs 3R (Reshaping, Regenerating and Re-timing) functions. We propose a new ranging method that sets the start position of the ranging window according to the distance between the repeater and the OLT and uses the conventional ranging window size, to connect the conventional ONTs. We propose that ATC reset timing be obtained by monitoring data grants from OLT which allows the repeater to receive optical burst signals with different intensities. We propose an alarm signal transfer method that has backward compatibility with one. We also propose that the repeater be managed as an ONT. We examine the repeater connection configurations from the viewpoint of the ranging method. Finally, we provide an example of repeater implementation.
