Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To compensate the fiber chromatic dispersion(CD)in high-speed optical-fiber transmission, we have developed a novel adaptive compensation technique using higher-order PMD, that is, the rotation of polarization axis generated by combining two polarization-maintaining fibers. The technique uses a single automatic polarization controller to track the change of signal wavelength, the change of received signal polarization states, and the best CD value for compensation. This technique has the advantage of small loss (experimentally 2.5 dB), simple control algorithm, and wide wavelength tracking range. We experimentally demostrated the operation of the technique and showed that the dispersion tolerance of a 10-Gbit/s NRZ system can be increased about 2.8 times (2850ps/nm).
