Multimode-fiber transmission characteristics and mode characteristics of a VCSEL coupled with a fiber Bragg grating

Abstract(in English) We fabricated a fiber Bragg grating(FBG)in multimode graded-index optical fiber(MMF)and coupled with a 0.8-μm surface-emitting laser.The spectral width decreased to 1/2-1/3 compared with that without an FBG.We studied digital transmission at a data rate of 700 Mbit/s using a 1-km MMF, and obtained the decrease in the power penalty by up to 2 dB.All of these characteristics depended on the temperature of the FBG.The dependence on the FBC temperature was discussed considering the relation between the propagating principal modes and the Bragg wavelengths.The transverse-mode pattern was also measured for the surface-emitting laser.
