Dispersion tolerance and maximum transmission distance in a 40Gbit/s dispersion management soliton transmission system

Abstract(in English) We discuss the dispersion tolerance and the maximum transmission distance in a 40-Gbit/s dispersion management soliton transmission system. It is shown that the transmission distance and the dispersion tolerance are limited mainly by the pulse broadening and the soliton interaction. When the launched power is high, the dispersion management soliton can be formed in a wide dispersion range, resulting in large dispersion tolerance. However, the high launched power simultaneously leads to the strong soliton interaction, which limits the transmission distance. We construct a 40Gbit/s recirculating loop transmission system and show that the soliton interaction actually limits the transmission distance. It is also shown that net dispersion tolerance of over 180ps/nm, which is much larger than that of a linear NRZ system, can be realized by the optimization of the pulse energy.
