Abstract(in English) | This paper reports an experimental study on evaluation method of birefringence distribution along optical fibers by measuring the DOP distribution of the Rayleigh scattering. The purpose of this study is to detect a segment or segments where the birefringence increases as a result of some lateral pressure. In the experiment, the states of backscattering polarization have been measured in a three kilometers long fiber into which a four meters long high birefringent fiber is inserted, and the DOP distribution has clearly exhibited the location of high birefringent portion. In addition, it is clarified that the upper limit of the launched pulsed light power is determined by the depolarization of incident light itself caused by the four wave mixing. |
