Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing)networks are emerging as a practical and future-proof solution to provide the infrastructure of the next generation Internet. It is still not clear, however, what structure of IP over WDM networks is best suited to satisfy the growing bandwidth requirements in the future Internet. The number of wavelengths is probably a key factor, And then, the question is; is it possible to realize IP over 1000-channel WDM? and is it useful to resolve the network bottleneck against an explosion of the traffic demand fo the end users? The answers are yes. In this article, we first demonstrate the feasibility to realize 1000-channel WDM network. Focuses are on the dispersion compensatation of optical fibers, optical amplifiers, and optical implementation of node. We then examine through the numerical examples how the IP over 1000-ch. WDM network utilizing wavelength roution can relief the router bottleneck.
