Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Bidirectioxnal OTDR method is very useful to measure nondestructively the dispersion characteristics of optical fibers along the axis since the backscattering technique is a promising and valid tool to investigate the transmission properties of dispersion-flattened/decreasing fibers whose chromatic dispersion is flat with respect to wavelength of light and varies along the length. Such a dispersion managed fiber is not only available in the densely WDM transmission system but also capable of generating short optical pulses over a broad continuous spectrum range through the interplay between the third-order nonlinearilies of the fiber. In this paper, we report the measurements of waveguide dispersion along the dispersion-flattened/decreasing fiber and discuss the transmission characteristics of the fiber compared with that of a single-mode optical fiber.
