New high count SZ-slotted core cables with 4-fiber ribbons for underground access networks

Abstract(in English) In recent years, the optical access networks are under construction to achieve the multimedia services. In order to construct these distributed networks economically, the mid span access is important technique. The SZ-stranded structure is suitable for mid span access, because the any optical fibers can be picked out from the cable at any points. The SZ-slotted core cables that can accommodate up to 200-fiber with 4-fiber ribbons for aerial use had been developed. This paper describes the design and the trial about new high count and high-density SZ-slotted core cable. The newly developed cable can be accommodate up to 300-fiber with 4-fiber ribbons. The downsized SZ-slotted rod have been adopted in order to design the cable with Small diameter which is almost equal to the conventional helical slotted core cable.
