Abstract(in English) All-optical switches are attractive for the application to various optical processing, such as optical demultiplexers. Recently, we proposed a novel all-optical switch, which is capable of highly efficient and ultrafast operation in a simple configuration. This switch, which we call the T-XPM (transient cross-phase-modulation) all-optical switch, is based on the wavelength shift accompanied by the resonantly excited optical nonlinearity in semiconductors (band-filling effect). With this switch, we achieve a switching time of 200 fs, optical demultiplexing at 1.5 Tbps, and a repetition rate of 10 GHz.
