Abstract(in English) This paper describes an optical cross-connect (OXC) prototype system that we have developed. The network survivability is one of the most important issues to be pursued for the advanced optical layer networks. The OXC prototype system focuses on network restoration to provide survivability. Its features include (1) a unique switch matrix architecture with low insertion loss, (2) a high-speed restoration of less than 150 ms by using fiber status monitoring and (3) an control software with a user-friendly graphics interface. Feasibility toward the deployment of the OXC system has been confirmed by a field trial using the installed fiber cables.
