Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the optical fiber communication technologies towards large capacity and high speed transmission systems, a supercontinuum (SC) generation has found many applications as valuable light source with a broad bandwidth more than a few hundred nm. To generate SC with abroad spectrum the fibers with varying propagation characteristics along axis and dispersion shifted and/or decreasing fibers have been developed and examined experimentally so far. Moreover, pulse compression in optical fibers has been also proposed for the fibers with varying propagation constant characteristics along axis. In this paper, utilizing these existing technologies for SC generation and pulse compression, we investigated various optical fibers using a computer simulation and discussed (1)ultra broadband SC generation and (2)pulse compression due to soliton adiabatic compression for the fibers with step-wise and continuously varying propagation characteristics such as group velocity dispersion (GVD)k'', nonlinear refractive index n_2, and effective core area A_eff.
