Write-once optical storage media composed of nanometer-size silver particles

Abstract(in English) We have made the preliminary experiments on the silver(Ag)island films for the application to write-once(WO)optical storage media. The Ag island films,which are deposited at room temperature, exhibit the broad resonance characteristics in the wavelength region from 400 to 800nm.After heating the films,the resonance wavelength shifts to shorter wavelength region and the resonance curve becomes sharp.By the laser writing, reading of marks on the films,it is shown that the Ag island films act as WO optical storage media.Furthermore,the microstructure in written marks shows that the thermal deformation of the Ag islands causes the change of the optical properties.
