Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Nonlinear directional couplers using nonlinear Kerr-like optical waveguides have been studied extensively, because of its application to all optical processing devices. In this paper the coupled-mode analysis of nonlinear directional coupler consisting of two parallel circular dielectric waveguides is presented using a singular perturbation technique based on the vectral wave formulation. It is shown that the two orthogonally polarized modes of the isolated waveguides have the different coupling coefficients and the polarization effect is in proportion to the relative deference of permittivities of the core and cladding regions, while the nonlinear self-phase modulation coefficients do not depend on the polarization.
