Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In a long-distance optical amplifier chain, the quasi-phase matching condition for four-wave mixing can be satisfied owing to the periodic power variation along the fiber link. Such quasi-phase matched four-wave mixing induces sideband modulation instability both in the anomalous and normal dispersion regions at well-defined frequencies. We observe, for the first time, the enhancement of optical amplifier noise in a recirculating fiber loop, which is attributed to sideband modulation instability.
