Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to study the comparison of several polarization mode dispersion(PMD) measurement methods, we make a numerical simulation of the interferometric method using Fourier transformation. We apply this technique to a model which consists of two polarization maintaining fibers concatenation with angular misalignment θ. According to the result of this study, interferometric method seems to lead us to the difficulty of suitable PMD estimation. Based on the several theoretical and experimental reports, it is known that the interferometric waveform will approach to the Gaussian distribution in the sufficiently random mode coupling limit. From this result, possibility of the quantitative treatment of the "weak mode coupling" and "strong mode coupling" is argued.
