Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Wavelength conversion has attracted much attention because of its important position in future WDM optical communication systems. In this paper, a newly developed QPM-DFG wavelength converter is analyzed both experimentally and theoretically. The QPM-DFG device was fabricated using LiNbO_3, and properties such as ultra high speed, broad bandwidth (~140 nm), low noise (near quantum limit), multi-channel conversion, practical conversion efficiency (~-30dB@4mW pump power) were found. Semiconductor QPM-DFG wavelength converter is also studied using a new theory, in which propagation loss, modulations of refractive index and nonlinear coefficient are considered. Simulation results show that even high property wavelength converter can be obtained by using semiconductor such as AlGaAs.
