Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The ordinary SI-POF has been hard to be used in high speed data links for over 100Mbps LANs such as ATM-LAN or Fast Ethernet due to a limited band-width as low as 5MHz.km. This paper reports that a low numerical aperture (NA) SI-POF link with a low divergence angle LED can be applicab1e to 156Mbps 100m transmission. Several important parameters in low NA SI-POF link, such as bending loss, coupling loss, transmission loss and modal dispersion penalty were estimated. It was confirmed that POF can exhibit advantages of both low cost and high EMI tolerance through a system demonstration of Fast Ethernet with ten POF ports.
