Development of mechanical splice for single optical fiber

Abstract(in English) We designed and estimated the mechanical splice for single optical fiber. The basic structure of the newly designed mechanical splice consists of a V-shaped grooved metal plate, a metal plate and a metal clamp. Optical fibers are aligned on the V-groove, and fixed by the pressure between the two metal plates. In order to make easier to connect the mechanical splice, between the two metal plates, we introduce new parts which enlarge the fiber insertion space before fixing fibers. The average connection loss of theproto-type of the developed splice is 0.07dB, and the time for fiber connection is less than 3 minutes.
