High Performance Fiber-based Dispersion Compensation Modules

Abstract(in English) We have developed high performance fiber-based dispersion compensation modules using both of matched cladding type and W cladding type dispersion compensating fibers (DCFs), which have high FOM and negative dispersion slope, respectively. For compactly packaging these DCFs, we have examinedsuppression of bending-induced loss and PMD. Furthermore, large splice losses between the DCFs and pig-tail fibers have been dramatically decreased by the thermally-diffused expanded core technique. The developed DC modules with dimensions of 210 mm*270 mm*25 mm can hold up to -1,000 ps/nm at 1.55 μm with no degradation of fiber attenuation or PMD. Environmental and mechanical tests have demonstrated excellent stability of the performance.
