Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optical Time Domain Reflectometry: (OTDR) is used for the method as a measurement of loss and fault location of optical fiber cables, and an extension of the dynamic range of an OTDR is an urgent requirement. Compared with an conventional direct detection of light power, a coherent detection has an advantage of dynamic range. We have developed and evaluated a coherent OTDR with balanced heterodyne detection at 1.32μm and 1.55μm. It has obtained a dynamic range of 33dB at 1.32μm and 30dB at 1.55μm with 1μsec launch optical pulse and 2^ integration.
