Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A polarization controller is necessary to measure optical characteristics of polarization sensitive optical components, especially waveguide type devices. We developed a compact polarization controller which can rotate incident liner polarized optical signal 90 degree at an output port using two PANDA fiber switches. This paper describes the desing and characteristics of PANDA fiber switches and shows their application to the polarization controller (PC). It also demonstrates the application of a PC to the polarization-dependent loss measurement of a waveguide device.
