Field experiments on 2.4 - 40Gbit/s repeaterless transmission with dispersion managed submarine cable

Abstract(in English) Broadband backbone networks of NTT are being constructed rapidly for multimedia communications. Optical amplifier technologies enable the networks to be up-graded from 2.4 Gbit/s to 10 Gbit/s economically. In this paper, we report the field experiments on 2.4Gbit/s, 10Gbit/s and 40Gbit/s repeaterless transmission using dispersion managed fiber cable located between Mutu city and Muroran city. This route is a part of the backbone networks. We confirm that the designs of the repeaters and dispersion managed fiber cables are adequate for its long span repeaterless system.
