Abstract(in English) This paper is concerned with a renewal process approximation for a multiplexing system having the input of multiplexed ON-OFF burst traffic We consider that packets in the ON-period are generated with the discrete time of a fixed T, and a Geometric distribution is assumed as the number of generated packets. When the OFF-period is an Exponential distribution, ON-OFF burst model is well known as the packetized voice. A renewal approximation based on QNA is already proposed for the multiplexed voice packets. This paper extends the OFF-period to a general distribution, and proposes a new renewal approximation method by using the index dispersion for counts(IDC) and the mean residual life time of busy period for the multiplexed burst packets of the extended general OFF-period distribution. The validity of the proposed method is shown by comparison as results of computer simulation for the mean waiting time of the multiplexer.
