Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The advent of erbium doped fiber amplifier achieved high-power and long regenerative repeater span optical transmission for high speed and long distance transmission systems. However, this simultaneously enhanced modulation instability originating from non-linear refractive index of transmission fiber. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at receiver of NRZ optical transmission system tends to be degraded by modulation instability, especially for anomalous or zero dispersion fiber transmission systems. This study focuses on the application of phase-sensitive amplifier (PSA) as optical repeater in order to reduce modulation instability. Here, the SNR at receiver of PSA system was analyzed by including dispersion, dispersion slope, and non-linear refractive index of fiber. The results of these analyses indicate that PSA systems using zero dispersion fibercan effectively reduce modulation instability at the condition of high power optical transmission as high as 10 dBm.
