Abstract(in English) | To design the buffer size of an ATM switch, we need to study the cell delay and cell loss characteristic of various traffic. In the report, the objective is to have the tail probability of the cell delay of the order 10^-9, which is the required Quality of Service for moving pictures. But, such a small probability cannot be obtained by the ordinary Monte Carlo simulation because of the limit of simulation time and the precision limit of pseudo random numbers. Therefore, we apply importance sampling method to cell delay characteristic simulation. We apply the importance sampling method to the waiting time characteristic of Geo/D/1 queueing model, and the optimal simulation distribution is determined theoretically. We will compare our IS estimates with MC estimates and theoretical values, and the ratio of the simulation time will also be discussed. |
