Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technologies have become indispensible for high capacity optical communication systems, and are used not only in subscriber networks but also in long-haul communication (e.g. in submarine cable systems). However, the capacity of the long-haul WDM systems is restricted by several factors as follows : (i) gain bandwidth limited by the self-filtering effect (ii) optical fiber nonlinearities, and (iii) excess of accumuleted chromatic dispersion. We have evaluated techniques required for long-haul WDM transmission. The transmission of eight-channels 2.5Gbit/s WDM signal over 12000km was successfully confirmed with the additional gain equalizer for accumulated imperfect gain flatness of the repeaters, and chromatic dispersion management (with chromatic dispersion compensation before transmission)
