Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) RZ modulation format is suitable for WDM transmission systems using optical amplifier repeaters. The Q-factor with RZ can be higher than that with NRZ, because RZ pulse has a higher peak power. Furthermore, RZ transmission can alleviate nonlinear channel interaction. Using RZ modulation format, we have succeeded in 24-channel 5.3 Gb/s, 7,828 km WDM transmission experiment and 24-channel 10.6 Gb/s,2,526 km WDM transmission experiment. In this paper, we will discuss the effectiveness of RZ modulation format taking these experimental results into account.
