Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Frequency-domain encoding code division multiple access (FE-CDMA) has been widely studied as a type of optical CDMA. In this system, encoding is done in the frequency domain spread by optically Fourier transform. However, there is disadvantage that the number of simultaneous users of FE-CDMA is small, although this scheme requires a large optical bandwidth. On the other hand, frequency division multiplexing (FDM) offers orthogonal transmission, but requires a great effort and permits a small number of optical frequencies. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid network that combines the advantage of FDM with FE-CDMA. Assuming performance is mainly degraded by multiple-access interference (MAI), we derive the bit error rate (BER) by using a Gaussian assumption on MAI. As a result, we show that FDM/FE-CDMA network can support the larger number of simultaneous users than a conventional FE-CDMA one at a given bit error rate under the same total bandwidth.
