Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Study of the effects of rainfall on radiowave propagation in Ku-band(14/12 GHz) using VSAT in our laboratory started on an experimental basis in 1993. This paper shows the most recent experimental results concerning the effect of rainfall on the propagation of radio frequency electromagnetic waves in Ku-band within Kyushu, Japan. Rain attenuation is measured using several VSATs in Kyushu at uplink path, downlink path and total link path. The relation between rain attenuation and rain intensity are shown at each of those paths together with the ITU-R recommendation, respectively. In addition, based on the experimental data, we discuss the effective path length and the specific attenuation.
