Multivariate matching pursuits for color image approximation and its application to image indexing

Abstract(in English) In this report, we introduce the matching pursuit color image decomposition for contents-based image retrieval. The matching pursuit is a non-orthogonal signal decomposition method. A signal is decomposed to the atoms in the dictionary. The signal decomposition is achieved by the iterative procedure that minimizes the norm of residuals at each iteration. We extend the matching pursuits to the color image decomposition. RGB color components are approximated by single atom at one iteration. Color images are represented in the three sequences of inner products and the sequence of atoms. Moreover, we propose the fast computation algorithm for the distant measure between the approximated images. The proposed algorithm requires the computational costs that is proportional to the square of the number of atoms. Finally, the actual query is demonstrated. The comparison between the queries by the small index image is also discussed.
