Abstract(in English) | INMARSAT (International Mobile Satellite Organization) has been offering satellite communication services for 19 years after the commencement of its service in 1982. At the begging, the servie is for the vessels, including the distress and safety services. Then the main service has gradually shifted to land mobile communication from the maritime communication. Furthermore, INMARSAT has developed a variety of communication systems and user terminals using digital technologies. This paper introduces the history of INMARSAT from the viewpoints of technology and business, which includes satellite communication systems and the interesting application peculiar to INMARSAT. Finally its future plans and trend are also described. |
