The image compression algorithms using addition and subtraction processing to simplify the hardware

Abstract(in English) We proposed the multi-rate discrete cosine transform (MR-DCT) using addition and subtraction processing to simplify the hardware for image compression. But, the PSNR of the reconstructed image using the MR-DCT is lower than that of the DCT. We consider the cause of the lower PSNR in the MR-DCT. It is clear that in the MR-DCT the higher frequency components over the band-limited signal disturb the lower frequency components of signal. And we propose the other image compression algorithms using addition and subtraction processing. First, we propose a method which uses the difference data between the pixel and block mean value. Second, we derive a conversion function from discrete walsh transform (DWT) coefficients to DCT coefficients. Third, we consider the projection method to transform the image into one-dimensional data. Finally, we show the characteristic of image compression using these methods.
