Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The discrete multidimensional phase unwrapping attracts attention recently due to its great applicability to high-resolution imaging techniques of surface topography from interferometric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and of magnetic resonance (MR) phase images. Since the observed signal can often be approximated well by a function with a constant amplitude and a polynomial phase, Friedlander and Francos recently proposed, motivated by Peleg and Porat's original work for 1-D case, an algorithm to solve the so called model based phase unwrapping problem to identify the polynomial phase by using an exhaustive numerical maximization. The first objective of the present paper is to examine the applicability of algebraic multidimensional phase unwrapping recently proposed by the authors to the problem of discrete multidimensional phase muwrapping. It is shown that algebraic multidimensional phase unwrapping can be applied to the problem if the observed signal can suitably be approximated by a multidimensional Fourier series expansion with finite harmonics. Moreover, for a pair of real polynomials that approximates the real and imaginal parts of the observed signal, we propose a new algebraic phase unwrapping algorithm applicable to the discrete multidimensional phase unwrapping. The second objective of the present paper is to propose a new method of model based phase unwrapping to identify the polynomial phase. Since the proposed method reduced the problem of polynomial phase estimation to a system of linear equations without using any exhaustive numerical maximization unlike the conventional methods, more efficient and reliable estimation of the polynomial phase can be realized.
