Finite Word Length Expression of FIR Digital Filter Coefficients using Delta-Sigma Modulation

Abstract(in English) This report describes a new quantization method of infinite word length coefficients of FIR digital filter. Rounding is one of the most popular quantization method and it brings about the quantization error all over the frequency band. However, the new method concentrates the error in arbitrary frequency band. For example, energy of image or audio data is concentrated in lower band. In this case, the new method concentrates the error energy in higher frequency band using delta-sigma modulation. Effect of the quantization on the output is given by a product of the input and the error. Therefore the quantization effect on the output can be reduced by the new method. Simulation results show effectiveness of the new method on the AR(1) model.
