Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We investigate the high definition image wavelet transform coding. An image is drawn up in order into minimum coded unit(MCU) of 8×8 pels after wavelet transform. The DC coefficients are DPCM coded and the AC coefficients are run-length/level huffman coded. First, Discrete Cosine Transform and Wavelet Transform is compared in terms of coding performance. The wavelet transform version shows better performance than D.C.T. version, in particular high bitrate region (more than 1.0 bpp). Next, we study of a number of wavelets, in the coding gain and coding performance point of view. As a result, we find that 9-7 tap Biorthogonal filter is better for high definition image coding.
