Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Plasma-wave transistors or PWT's, a new type of transistors proposed by Dyakonov and Shur, utilize the plasma-resonance effect of two-dimensional electron fluid in the carrier-traveling channel. Their potential operating principle has a great possibility to enhance their frequency range by orders of magnitude as high as those for conventional transistors governed by the real carrier transport. This paper reviews the recent advances in developing the PWT's and discusses their possible applications in the terahertz frequency bands.
