Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Microfabricated arrays of field emitters are promising sources of high current density and high brightness electron beams.Arrays of double-gated field emitters(microtriodes)will particularly be suited for the generation of a low emittance beam that drives compact free electron lasers operating at short wavelengths. After a design study of such systems,we have started an experiment on the propagation of beams using Spindt cathodes as the source.Beams of 1 - 5 key were transported over I m and projected onto a fluorescent screen, which showed separate images of beamlets from the tips.A new method of emittance measurement is being tested using a quadrupole lens that elongates the beam cross section.
