Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Harmonically mode-locked pulses in multimode lasers are generally found to be unstable owing to the difficulty in establishing a definite phase relationship among the different groups of coupled axial modes. In this report we propose a novel method for stable harmonic mode-locking of all multimode lasers whose active gain medium is short as well as long. The AM modulated harmonic signal,at the frequency of axial mode spacing,is used to drive an external optical amplitude modulator. This method is applied to an erbium doped fiber ring laser and highly stable optical pulses of~40ps are generated.
